The definition of style has changed a lot of the last few decades, especially in the business world. Remember when baggy suits were the trendy way of letting everyone know you had style?
Remember when long hair was in and funky ties were a fashion statement?
These days it’s about dressing sleek and paying attention to simplicity in every outfit.
Making a good impression in business settings can be difficult and sometimes even devastating if you don’t know how to pull off the professional look.
Think clean, crisp and collective! All three C’s give you an edge over the clunky shoes, and overly large suited guy with the uncombed, unwashed hair.
It’s Not Just About Good Hair
Having a fresh haircut isn’t the only thing that defines who you are as a professional, but it’s one of the main factors other people use when determining if you truly care about your image. We focus largely on a haircut, manicure, pedicure, or whiter teeth but really, we’re only solving a small portion our outward appearances that can only do so much for our overall sense of style.
The male haircut has higher precedence over any other grooming service these days. We always notice new haircuts that attempt to make a statement. Men want to be seen and they want to be known to everyone as the guy who has “that” haircut.
A haircut won’t win you a job over your competitors or allow your presentation to go smoothly; its only a microcosm of your complete image.
The Perfect Suit
There’s something about a fitted suit that drives a potential employer crazy, in a good way of course! Whether it is the impeccable fit or the beautiful rich color, a suit is where you can separate yourself from the competition.
Take these features into consideration when buying a suit:
Type of fabric – Typically, your first suit should be wool suit because it can be worn all year round. Linen suits are best for summer days and flannel suits help keep you warm.
The numbers of buttons – Suits have three-buttons, two-buttons or one-button. Each are used in different settings but all can still be stylish.
1. Three-button suits – If you’re tall, a three-button suit will fit better for you. It will reach higher on your chest and is more comfortable for wearing during your day.
2. Two-button suits – This is the most common suit for men. Almost every brand has a two-button suit, and if you have shorter torso, this suit will fit perfect for you.
3. One-button suit – These suits are mainly used for an environment that’s less conservative. If you’re outside of the office a lot or don’t work in a corporate business setting where dress code is strictly enforced, this suit could be a good option to bring more style and comfort into your daily wardrobe.
Pleated or non-pleated pants – Pleats mainly focus on the fit around the waist of your pants. If you’re a heavier set man, pleated pants can be your best friend. No pleats are for those of slimmer stature and provides a cleaner, crisper look.
Cuffs or no cuffs – Cuffs add weight to the bottom of your slacks, which normally helps your pant legs hang properly. Normally, cuffs are for taller men but anyone can have them tailored into their pants. Cuffs are definitely considered the dressier option when wearing a standard suit.
Color of suit – Color is everything these days when you’re choosing a suit. Top suit colors include midnight blue, gray, navy, and black. You’ll want to stay away from any odd color suits unless you’re in a career field that allows you to be more bold and adventurous with your suit type and color.
So what color of suit should you buy? Gray is the new black when it comes to suits. It has replaced black when it comes to casual office wear, but still can be an alternative for high-fashion event for work or entertainment purposes. While gray may be the new black, navy blue definitely has more style and makes a great choice for your second suit in your closet.
Each color will give you a different look and feel but all will still make you look like a professional businessman.
Inner Confidence
You can only do so much to your outward appearance to bring confidence. Once you’ve done all you can, it’s now time to look on the inside.
Confidence can be the winner when it comes to first impressions or landing that big job.
