I am a third-generation American and a seasoned entrepreneur. I was raised by a woman born in 1922—my grandmother. My grandparents owned and operated a salon, owned land and rental property, volunteered at the local nursing home, and were active in the community. As a young adult, I remember my grandmother saying to me, “Stay in the hair and beauty industry; it’s not going anywhere.” At the time I did not hear the message behind the words. I thought she meant that I should stand behind a chair in a salon for the rest of my life; I had no clue then that I could bring on-site services to aircraft, ships, offices, and residences. I’ve worked in hair and beauty, healthcare, and fashion, but I’ve always returned to the hair and beauty industry. For a while, I worked under another company name providing haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and waxing services to paying customers and providing pro bono grooming services to indigent members of the community.
